Founded in 1960 the Callan School of English is the largest Private English School in Europe, which utilises the Callan Method
The classes revolve around quick-fire oral question and answer work. The teacher uses a book that is full of questions. Each question practices a particular word, expression or grammatical item. The role of the teacher is to ask these questions to the students at high speed, help the student to make a sentence in response to the question by prompting and 'feeding' the answer, and correct when errors are made. Callan lessons are highly focused; the students are listening to the teacher at all times, speaking a lot, and the atmosphere is busy and demanding.
| Who is the Callan Course for? |
- People who would like to improve Speaking skills quickly
- People who are planning to take the Cambridge Exam
|
| Why is Callan good for the Cambridge Exam? |
Because the Callan Method teaches English through a process of quick-fire questions and answers, it gives the student the impression that it just teaches conversation and not the other aspects of the language. Like so many other things that people conclude about Callan Method, this is totally untrue. The Method teaches the student all the grammar and how to write to the level of the Cambridge First Certificate. Because it teaches these things through easy conversation it appears that it does not teach them at all: it seems all too easy − and yet, as if by magic, the student passes the Cambridge exams.
